Hairst Navigational Rally 27 October

This years SDMC Hairst Rally is on 27th October, and is a round of the SAMSC Scottish Navigational Rally Championship. We are also running a Clubman status event alongside the Championship counting National 'B' event. 

We are offering 98 miles in North East Aberdeenshire, starting at the Scout Centre, Methlick ,and we look forward to a great nights competition.

63CC Seafield Navigational Rally 15th September

The Seafield Navigational Rally is the next round of the SAMSC Scottish Navigational Rally Championship, and the North East Scotland Championship.
 Run by 63 Car Club on the evening of Saturday 15th September, starts and finishes at Cairnie Hall near Huntly. Approx 96 miles, Map 29 (Banff & Huntly), only £20 entry fee.
Clubman and National B event with Expert, Non Expert & Novice Classes.

At the AGM on 20th March the Scottish Association of Car Clubs, aka SACC, voted to change its name to the Scottish Association of Motor Sports Clubs, or SAMSC.

The web address has changed to ScottishMotorSportsClubs.co.uk and email addresses have changed to match, e.g.
joe.bloggs@scottishcarclubs.com becomes joe.bloggs@scottishmotorsportsclubs.co.uk
The old addresses will keep working for a few months, but you should start using the new ones now.

Scottish Road Car Series - New for 2018

We are delighted to announce the launch of the Scottish Road Car Series for 2018, which is intended to act as an accessible new entry point into motorsport in Scotland. Anyone with a valid driving licence and a road going vehicle will be eligible to enter the series - which will run over 10 rounds at various locations in Scotland - making it accessible to a broad range of people across the country.

We have a training programme for marshals and officials of all levels of experience, from complete novice to guru level, and the courses are all free, and run by qualified instructors licensed by the MSA.  See the full calendar below ...

Competitor Guidance - Fire Extinguisher Regulations

The MSA have published Competitor Guidance to clarify the changes in extinguisher regulations, as referred to in our February Update posting.

The very short version is that existing non-homologated extinguishers must be serviced every 24 months, or sooner if specified by the manufacturer, but there is more to it than that if you have FIA homologated extinguishers, and you will all need FIA extinguishers by 2021.

February News Update

The first month of 2018 is now past. Social media feeds tell me that many of your clubs are having your award events and this is a great reminder that for many of us, the joy is in competition. But it is also an opportunity to recognise the many other people without whom the competitive and social events would not happen. Well done to everyone.

My own diary of 2018 events has already begun with a couple of meetings in January. I was also at Knockill for the SMS Academy day. A highlight of the day was a visit from Aileen Campbell, Scottish Government minister for Sport and Health. This was an excellent opportunity to highlight the work of the SMS team and for wide ranging discussions about motorsport and will hopefully put our sport in a good light at Holyrood.

On the topic of the Scottish Government, I know that many of you are keen to see progress towards the closed road legislation being adopted in Scotland following the recent approval in Wales of the Westminster Act passed last year. What I can say is that this is very much at the top of the agenda of the MSA and every effort is being made to move this forward as soon as possible.

Autotest Winter Mini-Series for Drivers aged 14 to 17

Scottish Sporting Car Club and the Junior 1000 Ecosse Championship have come together to organise a 3-event winter series for 14 – 17 year-old drivers.  The series is run over the first three months of 2018, and can be used as a warm-up for existing competitors in the J1000 Championship, or for newcomers looking to get a start in low-cost motorsport.

DUKE OF ARGYLL LAUNCHES CELEBRATION OF SCOTTISH MOTORSPORT

His Grace, The Duke of Argyll was joined by car clubs and trade guests from across Scotland at his ancestral home of Inveraray Castle today (Thursday 26 October) to launch a brand new motorsport festival.

Designed to celebrate Scotland’s rich heritage in motorsport, over the next three years, the Argyll Festival of Performance will bring together significant cars and drivers from F1, Le Mans, Indy Cars, Touring Cars and International Stage Rallying, plus a whole host of unique vehicles never before seen in Scotland.
