Hi all
I hope you are all well and looking forward to Xmas, thank you all very much for supporting the 2019 Scottish Autotest Championship, and lets hope you can support it next year and hopefully we can get some more registered competitors.

The final results for competitors entering at least 3 events are as follows

Tuesday 5 November 2019

RS Clubman Licence new for 2020 - and it's FREE

For 2020 Motorsport UK is introducing the requirement for all competitors to hold a new RS Clubman licence as a minimum, which will be free of charge. If you compete, but don’t currently hold a licence you will need to apply for this. These changes will affect Autotests, Trials, Cross Country, Road Rallying, 12 Cars and Scatters. Passengers will also now be required to hold an RS Clubman licence. The RS Clubman licence can be applied for online from 18 November and aims to encourage more grass roots participation, as well ensuring all Motorsport UK event competitors are covered by comprehensive insurance. Additionally, licence holders will have access to Motorsport UK’s Member Benefits Programme that includes the new upgraded personal accident cover.

You can apply online from 18/11/19, but you can also apply at the event with a paper form and a photograph.

Again, it's FREE.

Motorsport UK - Important Club Changes for 2020

Now that 2019 is on the finish straight you may be starting to plan your events for the 2020 season, so we need to advise you of a number of changes to event permits and competitor licences that will affect the organisation of competitive events next year.

Throughout 2019 we have been evaluating the best strategy for the future of motorsport in this country. The fact is that there are some real challenges ahead and we need to act now, or potentially see a further decline in both licence holders and events. Why should that be something to worry about? The issue is that across the sport we are beginning to see some events, clubs and championships reaching a tipping point where their viability is in doubt.

New Training Events

7 September       Rally Marshals training with a focus on Closed Road events

to include Fire Training

location Melrose

The last quarter of 2019 sees rallying in Scotland take a major step forward with the reintroduction of closed roads rallying – the Beatson’s Building Supplies Mull Rally on 11 - 13 October and the Jim Clark Rally on 8-9 November.  The training day on Saturday 7th September has been added to the calendar to provide rally marshals with more of the knowledge required for this unique type of event.

Sessions will cover:
  • Unique attributes of closed road rallies
  • Handling difficult spectator conversations and conflict management
  • Fire and incident handling

The training is open to all marshals and officials irrelevant of whether you have offered your assistance on either, or both, of the closed roads events in Scotland this year.  Reference will be made to the Stage Rally Safety Requirements.

It is hoped that a external guest speaker will also give an insight into how third party services rely on the work of the rally marshal.

A light lunch will be provided along with tea and coffee in the morning and afternoon.

14 September     Cross Country Training, safe use of winches

Location Uphall, nr Bathgate

This training is aimed at anyone attending cross country events who may use their winches, whether for self-recovery, competition or supporting others.  It is not part of the training programme for licensed motorsport recovery operators.  This is a formal course based on industry standard material but designed to explain good practice and safety in a cross country scenario. Attendance at this event is limited in numbers both for your comfort and to ensure a good experience.

THE JIM CLARK MEMORIAL RALLY, 8/9 November 2019

The annual Jim Clark Memorial Rally is back under Starter's Orders. Following the final completion of new legislation  by the Scottish Government this week, the way is now open to bring the rally back to Berwickshire.

Originally the organisers sought to run this year's event on their previous end-of-May date, but, having checked with the 'Motorsport UK' competition calendar, this clashes with other events around the UK in this very busy season.

However, in a bid to get back on the road, the organisers have opted for an end-of-season date which would cause the least interference to a very busy motor sporting calendar.

STATEMENT FROM THE ORGANISERS OF THE JIM CLARK MEMORIAL RALLY

The organisers of the Jim Clark Memorial Rally have been greatly encouraged by recent developments in the Scottish Parliament to help overcome the barriers to closed public road rallying in Scotland. Such a move will bring the country into line with other parts of the UK including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, Wales and England.

The results of the Closed Roads Consultation have been published.

"In total 3,788 responses were received. 98.71% of those responses agreed with the proposal to introduce a two stage application process, involving Motorsports Governing Bodies and Local Authorities, to allow motorsports events to take place on closed public roads"

An important next step on the way to getting the Jim Clark & Mull rallies back soon, and possibly more events in the future. Thanks to everyone who responded and helped get to this situation. Watch closely for the next steps.

Scottish Navigational Rally Championship 2019

The first round of the 2019 Scottish Navigational Rally Championship (SNRC) is due to take place on the evening of 9th March 2019.  The Gropers Rally, run by Stonehaven & District Motor Club, starts just north of Stonehaven and follows a 99 mile route to finish at Arbuthnott Village Hall, on the B697, to the east of A90 near Fordoun.  Regulations for both the Championship and the Gropers Rally, AND NOW also the second round, Saltire Rally Club Moonless Rally,  can be found on the SAMSC website:Navi Rally page

In previous years the SNRC competitors had to buy a National B competition licence, and rounds of the Championship had to run as National B events.  However this year and next year the Motorsport UK are running a trial period allowing competitors to compete in the Championship with just SAMSC registered clubs’ membership cards and for events running as Clubman status to be included in the Championship.  This move is designed to encourage newcomers into the sport and to encourage those who might have previously only competed in their own club’s events to participate in a wider championship.

Scottish Autotest Championship 2019

It has been a few years since there has been a Scottish Autotest Championship held, but 2019 we are planning to resurrect it in 2019. There will be 9 events during the season - 1 per month running from March - October, spread throughout Scotland, to avoid competitors travelling hundreds of miles to participate.
Registration for the championship is FREE and because the Championship is now Clubman status no competition licence is required - only a valid Club Membershsip Card from any club which is a member of the Scottish Association. Championship Regulations, which include the Registration forms, can be found on the Autotest page of the SAMSC website, along with regs for round 1.
