2023 Rallyscore Scottish Autotest Championship

The regulations for the 2023 Rallyscore Scottish Autotest Championship have been published and are available on the Autotest page.

There will be seven rounds between March and September starting with the March Autotest run by 750MC.

Rallyscore Scottish Autotest Championship 2022 - Results

Going into the last round any one of 3 drivers were in with a chance of winning the championship – Gordon Clendinning, Gary Clark or James Morrison.
The last round was hosted by East Ayrshire Car Club at Kames on 23/10/23 and attracted a good entry of 15 cars to the PCA / Autotest, unfortunately we were short of some regular competitors with Oly McCollum competing on the Solway Targa and Ronnie and Martin Gillespie attending Rally Catalunia. It was good to see so many juniors competing in the PCA, it would be great if some of them may compete in some of next years Autotests.

On arrival the weather was cold but dry, this soon changed to either a light drizzle or a heavy downpour, this lasted most of the day, which made the tests very slippery and unpleasant driving conditions for the open top cars.

The 3 championship contenders were very close all day with Gordon Clendinning taking FTD, closely followed by James Morrison whose Mini Special was just a bit more nimble than Gary Clark's MX5.

Although Gordon took FTD on the day, Gary Clark was crowned the 2022 RALLYSCORE Scottish Autotest Championship by 1 point with James finishing 3rd in the championship.

It was good that the final result was down to the last round, this shows that it has been close throughout the year. I must mention the improvement throughout the year of Gary, Oly and Martin, thanks must also go to Gordon for mentoring the drivers and also assisting with the design of the test layouts.

I am planning to have a meeting with some of the drivers/ organizers prior to next years championship to discuss ways how we can go forward and encourage more drivers into the sport of Autotesting.

The 2022 Final results are -

1st Overall and 1st in Class – Gary Clark
2nd Overall and 1st in Class – Gordon Clendinning
3rd Overall and 1st in Class – James Morrison
Most Improved Driver – Martin Gillespie

SAMSC Meeting June 2022 - Bruce Lyle elected Chair

Bruce Lyle was unanimously appointed as Chair of the Association on an interim basis until the next Annual General Meeting.

This is a key appointment for the Association as not only does it provide us with the leadership the Association needs at this time but Bruce will also, over the next few months, oversee the recruitment of a successor.

A successful and experienced former competitor himself, Bruce has held varied senior positions across Scottish motorsport over many years including representing Scotland on the Motor Sports Council.

2022 RALLYSCORE Scottish Autotest Championship - Date Change

The next round in the 2022 RALLYSCORE Scottish Autotest Championship was due to be the June Autotest held by Stonehaven & District Motor Club on Sun. 12th June, as they are having problems securing a venue we have decided to postpone the event until October, the date to be advised. The postponed event will now be the last round of the Championship and the overall awards may be presented at this event. The next round in the Championship will now be the Time Attack Autotest held by South of Scotland Car Club at Lockerbie on 16th July, this is also a British Autotest Championship round and if last years event was anything to go by, this will be a great event. There is a separate classification within the event for the Scottish Championship competitors and would be a fantastic experience for as many as possible. I believe the event is running over 2 days - Saturday is the Championship event and Sunday is an extra fun day, once I have more details I will notify everyone. Thanks Bill

Scottish Autotest Championship - Points before the final event

After some rounds of the Championship were cancelled or postponed we have decided that the Championship counters will now be reduced to 7,

the last round will be the Kames Autotest on Sun. 31st October, which I am sure will be a fitting finale to the 2021 Championship which at one point did not look like it would be possible. As well as the Scottish Championship counter, Gordon Clendinning has organised a Maximum Attack MX5 Challenge, which already has a good entry, even if you are not competing it would be worth the trip to see some of these drivers in action.

The Championship will be decided on the drivers best 4 scores from 7 and as Gordon has scored Maximum points on each round he can not be caught on 128 points, bit it is still undecided who will be runner up as counting their 4 best scores, the current standings are Gary Clark on 115 points, James Morrison on 116 points and Paul Davidson on 117 points, so its all to play for on the final event.

Championship Points

See you at Kames.

Thanks

Bill

Final Round of Scottish Autotest Championship at Kames, 31/10/21

The 2021 Championship will finish with the Maximum Attack Autotest at Kames on Sunday 21st October.

This promises to be a great event with excellent tests and a decent entry of MX5s already, and I am sure it will be a fitting finale to a much condensed Championship.

Please support the Kames event with your entries, it will be worth the trip, you will not be disappointed.

The SRs are HERE in the Downloads section of the SAMSC Autotest page

GREEN LIGHT FOR SCOTTISH RALLYING

Great news for rallying in Scotland - the Scottish Government has agreed to drop the rule that only members of the same household could share a car for motorsport.

This means that rallying, trials, etc can resume almost as normal, but this applies only in areas at Level 3 or below, and there are still requirements, like face coverings in the car, and no spectators. Guidelines issued by Motorsport UK must be followed, an update is expected Friday 14th May

Read on for more details from Chairman Pete.

SAMSC Scottish Autotest Championship 2021 Starts Sat 15 May

With the easing of Covid regulations, the 2021 Scottish Autotest Championship gets under way on Saturday 15th May with the Glenrothes MSC Andy Wilson Memorial Autotest at Knockhill.

More details of the Championship, including the Regulations and Registration form, are also on the Autotest Page of the SAMSC site, along with Regulations for the event, which include a link to the online entry form.
