It was good to see so many juniors competing in the PCA, it would be great if some of them may compete in some of next years Autotests.

On arrival the weather was cold but dry, this soon changed to either a light drizzle or a heavy downpour, this lasted most of the day, which made the tests very slippery and unpleasant driving conditions for the open top cars.

The 3 championship contenders were very close all day with Gordon Clendinning taking FTD, closely followed by James Morrison whose Mini Special was just a bit more nimble than Gary Clark's MX5.

Although Gordon took FTD on the day, Gary Clark was crowned the 2022 RALLYSCORE Scottish Autotest Championship by 1 point with James finishing 3rd in the championship.

It was good that the final result was down to the last round, this shows that it has been close throughout the year. I must mention the improvement throughout the year of Gary, Oly and Martin, thanks must also go to Gordon for mentoring the drivers and also assisting with the design of the test layouts.

I am planning to have a meeting with some of the drivers/ organizers prior to next years championship to discuss ways how we can go forward and encourage more drivers into the sport of Autotesting.

The 2022 Final results are -

1st Overall and 1st in Class – Gary Clark

2nd Overall and 1st in Class – Gordon Clendinning

3rd Overall and 1st in Class – James Morrison

Most Improved Driver – Martin Gillespie

Bill Creevy

Thanks for your support since I was asked to take on Interim Chair of our Association. I thought I should update you on the most important issues facing the Clubs, and our thoughts on each issue.

1. We have received no more nominations for the position of Chair, and as we should be filling this role by the next AGM in March, I would ask you to think hard about suitable candidates. There are a number of busy people out there
who could admirably fill this role if they were able to spare just a little time. We should also be aware that other significant roles need supporting, and succession has to be a major priority. Our long serving Secretary and Webmaster has been working on our behalf for 13 years now, and is not getting any younger. I would invite any of you who could help with either of these tasks, to come forward to help. This applies across the board across the specialist tasks that we need to help the Clubs.

2 . The most pressing issue of the day is to resolve the problem of having too many events on our calendar, putting overwhelming pressure on the back up services of Marshalling, Medical, Rescue, Recovery etc. This is particularly evident currently, with events, large and small, taking place almost weekly.
We will be organising a meeting for the Clubs involved to sit round a table and work out a way forward for 2023, as soon as possible, probably in August.

3. Association Meetings by Zoom have proved to be less than satisfactory, with only 8 attendees at Knockhill for the last Meeting, and a further 14 on Zoom. Not good out of 50 Clubs. We are now proposing that at least 2 out of our 4 meetings in any year should revert to face-to-face meetings, where Club reps will have the opportunity to chat to colleagues, face to face,
over a coffee. We acknowledge the cost implications all round, but feel that we have lost a huge amount since covid restrictions. We hope to return to Stirling for the September Meeting. We will organise things so that representatives
from distant Clubs can attend by Zoom.

4. I have been in touch with Sue Saunders at MotorsportUK, who has been working with Sport Scotland on our behalf, and I am pleased to tell you that they have almost all the ducks in a row to facilitate an application for Development Funding for Scottish Motorsport for 2023. I will keep you updated.

5. Age is an issue - don't tell me! Wherever you look in our sport, the senior roles seem to be taken by the older generation. There are obvious exceptions, of course, but we need to see more younger people coming on board. Junior 1000 for rallying is a great concept, and the latest MS UK initiative, Street Car Series, will be an ideal starter for 10, aimed very much at low cost entry level sport. Perhaps we also need something similar for Marshals and other officials from a much younger age. We will be looking at recruitment, and how to promote interest in all disciplines.

Please contact me with any thought on these, and any other issues.

This is an excellent event with great flowing tests and a fantastic venue, even if you are not competing it is worth a visit to spectate to see the very best of Britain's Autotesters and easy to access from the motorway.
SRs are in Downloads on the SAMSC Autotest page.
The current Championship points table after 3 rounds -
Gordon Clendinning - 90, Gary Clark - 88, Oly McCollum - 82, William Orr - 55, Martin Gillespie - 31, James Morrison - 30, Daniel Rae - 26, Ronnie Gillespie - 23, Colin Rae - 21.Lockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766208739195679656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7171218469328949859.post-75569064548556052022022-06-03T11:39:00.000+01:002022-06-03T11:39:06.608+01:002022 RALLYSCORE Scottish Autotest Championship - Date ChangeThe next round in the 2022 RALLYSCORE Scottish Autotest Championship was due to be the June Autotest held by Stonehaven & District Motor Club on Sun. 12th June, as they are having problems securing a venue we have decided to postpone the event until October, the date to be advised.
The postponed event will now be the last round of the Championship and the overall awards may be presented at this event.
The next round in the Championship will now be the Time Attack Autotest held by South of Scotland Car Club at Lockerbie on 16th July, this is also a British Autotest Championship round and if last years event was anything to go by, this will be a great event.
There is a separate classification within the event for the Scottish Championship competitors and would be a fantastic experience for as many as possible. I believe the event is running over 2 days - Saturday is the Championship event and Sunday is an extra fun day, once I have more details I will notify everyone.
Thanks

As well as the Scottish Championship counter, Gordon Clendinning has organised a Maximum Attack MX5 Challenge, which already has a good entry, even if you are not competing it would be worth the trip to see some of these drivers in action.

The Championship will be decided on the drivers best 4 scores from 7 and as Gordon has scored Maximum points on each round he can not be caught on 128 points, bit it is still undecided who will be runner up as counting their 4 best scores, the current standings are Gary Clark on 115 points, James Morrison on 116 points and Paul Davidson on 117 points, so its all to play for on the final event.
<p style="background-color: white; As I said before, clubs intending to organise events should read through all of the available material, not just the Scotland page, to ensure they meet all of the compliance requirements for running a Covid-19 safe event. There is still much work to be done and it has been suggested that SAMSC can play a role by enabling a small working group involving some of the event Covid-19 officers with a view to sharing best practice. More on this to follow.

Note in particular that spectators are still not generally allowed and total numbers on site are also limited. These points may change in future phases of easing restrictions. Clubs should also make sure they engage fully with the venues they want to use to make sure they comply with any local requirements which may be in place. Overnight stays are allowed within the guidelines applicable to the hospitality sector but please ensure that any local and/or national travel restrictions are still followed.

Finally, please engage fully with all your members and in particular, potential competitors and volunteer official/marshals. There are important changes to the way events will run under Covid-19 protocols including Covid-19 testing, signing-on, scrutineering, timing, incident handling and service area management. Information on all this is available on the Motorsport UK website and it is very important that everyone involved understands how these changes will impact on them. Motorsport UK have produced a video aimed at competitors which has already been send out to them but as a reminder, here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYIbpEkm9-w

I want to commend again John Ryan, Technical Sporting Director and all the team at Motorsport UK, who along with the staff at Sportscotland, have worked together to gain approval from Scottish Government to allow our sport to continue. I am delighted to confirm that, following formal agreement with Scottish Government, this includes competitive motorsport events running with Motorsport UK permits.

I am however disappointed that, despite strong representation being made, the Scottish Government has not given agreement to allow two competitors in a car which means that rallies and other disciplines with a driver and passenger are still not allowed in Scotland. Efforts will continue to get some movement on this issue.

An updated version of the Scotland specific guidelines has been agreed and has today been made available on the Covid-19 page of the Motorsport UK website. Clubs intending to organise events should read through all of the available material, not just the Scotland page, to ensure they meet all of the compliance requirements for running a Covid19 safe event. Note in particular that spectators are not allowed and total numbers on site are also limited. These points may change in future phases of easing restrictions. Clubs should also make sure they engage fully with the venues they want to use to make sure they comply with any local requirements which may. Overnight stays are allowed within the guidelines applicable to the hospitality sector.

The team at Motorsport UK, led by John Ryan, have worked very hard to gain approval from Scottish Government to allow out sport to continue and it is incumbent on all of us to follow all of the rules and guideline to show motorsport in a good light.

Regards

Pete Weall

Chairman
Lockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766208739195679656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7171218469328949859.post-9077499534758708802020-11-09T14:19:00.000+00:002020-11-09T14:19:09.638+00:00Social Media Marketing webinars for clubs - starting this Tuesday 10 November at 19:00
Tuesday 10th November at 19:00, we have the first of our Monthly Marketing Show webinars in association with ContentCal.

Clubs are always looking for ways in which they can raise awareness of their activities and attract new members, particularly younger ones.
